Time travel can be complicated. I mean, living tissue has to travel 88mph while avoiding fixed points in time and remembering that the clock in San Dimas is always running. Sounds like a lot to keep track of, but thankfully this new graph can help clear up a few questions. Well, at least the ones about the Terminator franchise’s timeline.

Looks like John Connor may have messed up time worse than Biff Tannon with his stolen Sports Almanac. While the original Terminator film built its own time paradox in which the the past could not occur without the intervention of the future, it seems that Terminator 2 was the first spot to deviate onto a second timeline with the delay of Judgement Day. While Terminator 3 proved that Judgement Day was inevitable, it does deviate again with the number of Resistance leaders that were killed by the TX. Salvation seems to be the only film that was an actual continuation of the previous film’s timeline, but we then see that the events of Terminator: Genisys establish a completely new timeline to run with, as we had assumed it would.

For a film series that has already built a rather convoluted timeline, it could only be assumed that the producers would look to do the hard reset that both the Star Trek and X-Men franchises did. And as the franchise has been telling us for year, there is no fate but the one we make.
