TERMINATOR GENISYS VFX Reel Shows the Creation of Young Arnold Schwarzenegger

Judgment Day has been prevented…we hope. After the first two Terminator movies, it’s been suggested that its dark future can only postponed, but never averted. Last year, Terminator Genisys completely changed the Terminator timeline, but it failed to reignite the franchise and spark the hoped-for sequel movies and TV spinoff. (Though the movie did perform well overseas, possibly enough for a sequel…we’ll see.)

But that doesn’t mean that a lot of hard work didn’t go into the production of Terminator Genisys. Six different VFX companies worked Terminator Genisys, and now, MPC (Moving Picture Company) is showing off its contributions to the finished film in a new VFX reel.

MPC was primarily responsible for recreating the iconic T-800 from the original Terminator and providing a CGI version of Arnold Schwarzenegger that could convincingly pass for his younger self. The video reel features several examples of how MPC’s artists used the facial animation of modern day Schwarzenegger before giving him a digital facelift. Perhaps the most impressive aspects of the CGI Schwarzenegger are the eyes.

The reel also features a few shots from the battle that pit Schwarzenegger’s older Terminator (the Guardian) against the 1984 Terminator from a scene near the beginning of the film. Additionally, the video depicted the creation of the post-robot-apocalypse San Francisco and Skynet’s HK-Aerials as well as the Terminator’s first moments in 1984.

What did you think about the Terminator Genisys VFX reel? Would you be up for another Terminator film in the future? Blow up Skynet and share your thoughts in the comment section below!
