TERMINATOR 2 Coming to Theaters (in 3D!) Next Year

It’s been 19 years. Two long, agonizing decades since the automatons of Skynet gained sentience, won control of America’s nukes, and rendered a nuclear holocaust upon the planet Earth. How have you been passing the time? As for us, we’ve mostly been catching up on movies. One of the perks of living alongside a generation of artificially intelligent electronics is that they can access just about any piece of entertainment committed to the internet—make good with a cineaste cyborg and you’ll have every movie in the world at your disposal, free of streaming charges. Still, sometimes it pays to catch a classic on the big screen. Especially an action packed and visually gripping epic like Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Luckily for all of us—human and humanoid alike—T2 is returning to theaters, and by way of contemporary 3D. According to the film’s official Facebook page, James Cameron’s infinitely lauded sequel will reach American theaters in 2017, though exactly when is yet to be revealed.

If you’ve never seen T2 on the big screen (or, you know, at all), this’ll be a good opportunity to vie for one of the formative experiences in modern moviegoing history. Upon its release in July of 1991, Terminator 2 became its year’s highest grossing movie, and by far! With a worldwide gross of almost $520 million, it topped silver medalist Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves by approximately $130 million. The film snagged for Oscars from six nominations, and has stamped the zeitgeist with two of the most quotable quotes in movie history.

But spelling out the film’s accomplishments fails to properly illustrate what it’s like to watch it on the big screen. Enjoying this original sci-fi epic (one of what we now know is a dying breed) in the form of its natural grandeur is surely worth a trip to your nearest multiplex, don’t you think?

Will you be seeking out Terminator 2: Judgment Day when it returns to theaters in 3D? Let us know!
