Watch a Ten-Minute Fireworks Display Set Off All at Once

The best part of any fireworks display is the ending, when the brightest, most beautiful bursts of color take to the sky in the show’s biggest barrage. But how much of that is because the entire exhibition builds to a crescendo? Would the finale be as effective without the prelude? Or could you skip right to the end and not miss anything? There’s only one way to find out–watch an entire ten-minute show set off all at once.

We came across this explosive–yet very educational–video at Geekologie, and it comes from YouTuber Tom Scott, who wanted to do something different by intentionally setting off a normal fireworks show with a single button, a unique way to explain why it sometimes happens by accident. The fireworks here reach heights of 200 to 400 feet, and all of them are fired within a hundredth of a second, making for one instant mega explosion.

Normally when a display goes awry it’s because someone screwed up, and the results can be less like a fun night out and more like attending the beginning of the Apocalypse. That’s what made this intentional mass launch more satisfying than the unplanned kind.

However we did miss the music that many shows are often set to, and with so many fired at once the middle become one big ball of light, so it was hard to appreciate the full palette of a regular show. Plus, despite having way more oomph than a normal finale, there was nothing to compare it to, which made it seem less impressive.

Turns out when you don’t have any rising action the crescendo falls a little flat.

Did you prefer this condensed show? Or would you rather watch the full ten-minute version? Set off fireworks full of your thoughts in the comments below.
