TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: OUT OF THE SHADOWS Trailer Reveals Bebop and Rocksteady

We’ll understand if you don’t harbor quite as much excitement about seeing Bebop and Rocksteady make their feature film debuts as you did over, say, Wonder Woman marking the very same milestone just last month. Granted, the mutant ungulates have not exactly rivaled Princess Diana of Themyscira in cultural stature. But it’s still pretty neat for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans to see the mainstay baddies take live action form in the upcoming Out of the Shadows, especially after multiple failed attempts to transplant them to the big screen.

We see the aforementioned rhinoceros and warthog monstrosities rendered as such after their human counterparts are doused with “the purple ooze,” leaving the titular turtles to wonder, “If people can become animals, can we become people?” Grand philosophical quandaries about the nature of the self and what it truly means to be human ensue.

Also taking his first steps into the standing TMNT franchise is Stephen Amell as Casey Jones: hockey stick-wielding ally of the turtles and, as it certainly seems from the trailer, replacement love interest for Megan Fox’s April O’Neil. Though we can’t say that these movies are using April or Fox with especial reverence—is that slow motion shot of her hiking up her shirt really necessary?—but if she’s going to have a romantic arc, one in tandem with Amell seems like a step-up from her chemistry-devoid pairing with Will Arnett in the 2014 film. Though Arnett fans shouldn’t be too concerned; he’ll be back for this installment, as proved by his split-second appearance in the trailer.

Will you be checking out Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows? Other than Bebop and Rocksteady, which canonical characters are you most excited to see? (I’m a Krank guy myself.) Let us know!
