Tame Impalaâs Currents + Miguelâs âWavesâ = Miguel and Kevin Parker hanging out on the beach.
Tame Impalaâs recent Grammy-nominated record Currents saw the band ditch much of their staticky noise for a synthier, more polished sound. The switch vaulted the Australian garage rockers into more mainstream currents, giving them the opportunity to collaborate with pop stars like Miguel.
The neo soul singer invited Tame Impala to remix âWaves,â a track from his 2015 record, Wildheart. The bandâs remix was included on Rogue Waves, a collection of Wildheart remixes released last Friday that also happens to have a water-themed name. Like everything Tame Impala touch, the track is coated in a buoyant, echoing glaze that brings a sense of euphoria to Miguelâs original (which has psychedelic undertones of its own).
Miguel and Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker just revealed a 90-second music video for the remix. The clip features the two men sitting on wooden chairs on the beach while the tide rolls in. Occasionally, Miguel and Parker stand up and walk around, but their dispositions are just as relaxed as that signature, aforementioned Tame Impala glaze. Still, the ordeal must have proved too taxing to endure for the full length of the songâwhich is too bad because itâs a killer track, and thereâs something heartening about watching Parker and Miguel hang out on the beach.
Check out the video above. Should Miguel and Kevin Parker be forced to walk around on the beach for another three minutes? Let us know what you think in the comments.
