When I first heard that Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons’ excellent comic book series The Secret Service was being turned into a feature film, I was supremely excited because its blend of spy drama, quick-witted humor, and all-around ass-kickery seemed like it would make an ideal movie. When I heard Matthew Vaughn was directing and co-writing along with Millar, Gibbons, and his X-Men: First Class co-writer Jane Goldman, I was elated . When I heard they’d given it a new title, I was like, “Wait, what?” When I finally saw the trailer, with its delightfully droll Colin Firth espionage-ing all over the place, lisping Samuel L. Jackson, and girl with what looks like bionic legs, all my fears were assuaged and my excitement meter was comfortably back at eleven.
How sweet does that look? It’s kind of like James Bond meets Men in Black, but with a liberal sprinkling of Mark Millar-y maddness for good measure. I do hope they’ll consider changing the title to either Kingsman or just The Secret Service because right now that thing is unwieldy as hell and seems likely to turn off potential audiences. In the meantime, ComingSoon has a poster for the film’s IKEA collection the film itself.
Has the trailer won you over? What do you think of the title? Let us know in the comments below or tell me on Twitter.
