Talking BLACK PANTHER, GAME OF THRONES Extended Episodes, STAR TREK: DISCOVERY

As the old saying goes, good things are worth waiting for. That said, there comes a point when even the most disciplined of fans can see their patience tested by perpetually out-of-reach properties. We had to wait eight years after the inception of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, for example, before Disney brought the beloved comic book character Black Panther to the bring screen; two years would separate the character’s introduction to the big screen and his headlining position in a feature film. But if the varied responses to this morning’s release of a Black Panther movie poster are any indication, excitement has in no way fizzled over time.

We begin today’s Nerdist News Talks Back with a look at the new poster, and at the range of responses thereto. Some fans love it, some hate it; either way, people are amped up about T’Challa’s forthcoming stand-alone feature. Host and Nerdist Senior Editor Dan Casey, along with Nerdist Associate Editor Kyle Anderson and writer Aliza Pearl, will tackle fan response to the poster and discuss what they hope to see from Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther. One question that looms in anticipation of the film: will T’Challa find a pal and sidekick in Bucky Barnes?

Speaking of long-awaited properties, we turn to the new season of Game of Thrones, which, though slight in episode count, will be no slouch when it comes to episode run-time; two of season seven’s eps will clock in at longer than any Game of Thrones eps to date–and by a healthy sum. At 81 minutes long, the season finale could technically register as a feature film. Does this growing trend suggest changes in the way television will proceed in telling its stories?

Finally, we discuss the topic of Star Trek: Discovery, which, along with a pretty stellar starring cast, has already begun considering top dollar guest stars. The varied Star Trek series over the years have featured some pretty memorable cameos–Dan, Kyle, and Aliza will discuss some of their personal favorites, along with who’d they like to see play guest parts on Discovery.

Any thoughts on the Black Panther poster, Game of Thrones‘ extended episodes, or Star Trek: Discovery guest stars? Let us know!
