The next scripted series from Robert Rodriguez’s El Rey Network, Matador, has released its first look online! The 30 second teaser features glimpses into the action packed first season starring Gabriel Luna in the title role and Alfred Molina.
Matador will premiere on Tuesday, July 15 at 9/8c. The series was created by Roberto Orci, best known for the Transformers and Star Trek movies, with his brother Andrew Orci and show runners Dan Dworkin and Jay Beattie. The first episode was directed by Robert Rodriguez and will have a thirteen episode run on the network.
The series follows the unlikely rise of Tony âMatadorâ Bravo, a popular soccer star who comes to be known as much for his playboy antics off the field as his dynamic moves on it. But what his fans and family donât realize is that itâs all a cover â in truth, he is a skilled covert operative executing missions for a little-known branch of the CIA.
Matador is also the first scripted series on El Rey to come from original source material, From Dusk Till Dawn being based on Rodriguez’s film of the same name starring George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino. From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series has already been renewed for a second season.
What do you all think of the first teaser? Are you excited to see Matador on the small screen? I know I look forward to anytime Alfred Molina does anything and Luna appears to be an appealing leading man. Let us know your thoughts on the first look at Matador in the comments below!
