Take A First Look At MIDDLE-EARTH: SHADOW OF MORDOR

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor has a good shot at being the Lord Of The Rings game we’ve all been waiting for. The first gameplay trailer for it has just been released, showing off the game’s Nemesis System, a persistent next-gen feature that records players every action and uses them to shape the way the enemies they encounter react to them. So far, the game is looking rather intriguing, as you’ll see if you check out the official gameplay reveal down below:

Wow, it’s pretty much everything we loved about Assassin’s Creed‘s battle system, mixed with a little bit of the Batman Arkham games’ combat system, and thrown into J.R.R. Tolkien’s wonderful-yet-gruesome fantasy world. Shadow Of Mordor is an epic tale of revenge that takes place between the events of The Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings. You play as Talion, a ranger of Gondor and guard on the Black Gate. After rising from thousands of years of obscurity, Sauron and his forces return to Mordor, murdering Talion’s friends, family, and him, all in cold blood. Talion is resurrected by a mysterious Wraith, the spirit of someone who was murdered but lives on as an apparition, which allows him to live on in both the physical and spiritual realms, thus giving him an arsenal of special abilities.

As you can see, Middle-earth: Shadow Of Mordor has a pretty good backstory to go with it’s seemingly solid gameplay, and I think even non-Lord Of The Rings fans will get a kick out of this one if it turns out as good as it looking to be. The game is set to hit stores later this year on PS4, PS3, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.

  1. This looks fantastic! I’m especially interested after having been participating in the Nerdist discussion of The Silmarillion, listening to the book on CD, and being an avid player of ESO. I’m a huge fan of Tolkien’s world and love seeing it “come to life” and certainly even moreso when I get to control some of the action! This will definitely be in my hands as soon as it’s released.
