Hey science, if you’re so great, why don’t we have hoverboards yet? Oh, we do. Well, what about personal jetpacks that can fly you anywhere at 120 miles per hour. Oh, we have those too?
Yes, the video above does show two men zipping around Dubai in custom-built jetpacks. They twist and weave through the sky as fast as a supercar in the city known for supercars (with cheetahs riding shotgun). The lead “jetman” is Yves Rossy, who has taken his custom creation everywhere from the Grand Canyon to Mount Fuji. For his latest adventure, crank the resolution up to 4K if you can and watch 11-minutes of heart-pounding futuristic flight.
What blows my mind is that these jetpacks don’t come from some company selling dangerous toys to people with too much money — the jetpacks were developed by Rossy himself (Rossy is a professional pilot) over a number of years.
It’s amazing that just four model jet turbines and an expertly crafted wing — components we’ve had for years — can instantly realize our visions of the future.
