SYNCHRONICITY Trailer Will Make You Rethink Time Travel

With a bevy of recent previews for movies like Independence Day: Resurgence, Star Trek Beyond, and Midnight Special, 2016 is shaping up to be a stellar year for science fiction fans. But sci-fi Santa Claus has at least one more gift to slip under the trailer tree before the year’s out, with this first glimpse at Jacob Gentry’s Synchronicity.

Synchronicity is a sci-fi noir that tells the story of physicist Jim Beal battling a “ruthless tycoon” and a classic femme fatale in order to keep the rights to the time machine he’s invented. However, the only way Beal can keep the rights to the machine is by proving that a Dahlia that has appeared from the future has an identical match in the present. You know, basic run-of-the-mill physicist problems.

The trailer is dark, gritty, and dystopian, with a musical and visual style reminiscent of a David Fincher flick. With plenty of nocturnal city shots and cigarette smoke lit by slits of light in otherwise dark rooms, this is definitely a movie in the same vein as something like Gattaca, 12 Monkeys, or Blade Runner. And, as with almost any time-travel-centered movie, Synchronicity also looks like it’s going to be quite a brain-bender. You’ll probably want to brush up on your Einstein-Rosen Bridges.

The team behind Synchronicity, including writer-director Gentry and stars Chad McKnight and A.J. Bowen, are best known for their 2007 film, The Signal, which was made on a shoestring budget of $50,000 and premiered at Sundance. This film looks to be a big step up in production values, however, and is already garnering mostly positive press after its premiere at Fantasia International Film Fest. Synchronicity is set for release on January 22, 2016, unless you have a time machine, in which case you’ve probably already seen it and have bigger matters on your mind like your own paradox-inducing existence.

What do you think about the trailer for Synchronicity? Are you ready for another dark sci-fi thriller, or do you wish you had a time machine so you could erase this trailer from your memory? Let us know in the comments section below!
