Sylvester Stallone to Bring THE EXPENDABLES to Television

In 2010, Lionsgate Films gathered together a group of the most recognizable action heroes from the ’80s and the ’90s for what could only be described as the ultimate action movie. With a worldwide gross of over $200 million, The Expendables spawned two sequels that packed even more action stars into them with each subsequent film. Even Fraisier slipped in there. To this date, the Expendables series has grossed almost $800 million from all three films, and plans are in the works for at least two more films, and an all-female spin-off known as The Expendabelles. It seems that in spite of critical and audience interested waning after the third film Sylvester Stallone and Lionsgate are not giving up on the franchise just yet.

Deadline has reported that Sly and Lionsgate have reached a deal with FOX to bring The Expendables to television. FOX plans to develop the project as an event series that will give the same kitchen-sink treatment the film did for action stars, but this time around they are hoping to gather a murder’s row of television stars to fill out the cast. No one has yet been attached to star in the series. Stallone will act as an executive producer on the series along with Avi Lerner, who produced the film series. Kirk Ward and Greg Coolidge (Ride Along) are set to pen the series with Shane Brennan (NCIS:LA.)

Lionsgate first sought to bring the series to TV back in 2012, after the increased success of the second film, but instead settled on putting together a third film. It seems now that the third film has not fared as well as the previous two, the television idea started getting kicked around again. No production or released dates have been announced at this time.

So, who do you think should join the TV Expendables cast? Let us know in the comment section below, on Facebook, on Twitter, on my personal twitter @MattDelhauer, or shout it out of your car window while driving…I promise I will hear you.

I would say if your gonna throw in TV stars. Why not stabler from SVU.

So perhaps in response to the third movie being considered watered down and too safe they respond by moving to television.  When I was a kid, that would be a joke, now it actually might work out.
