Thereâs been a lot of speculation concerning Syfyâs upcoming adaptation of the 1995 Terry Gilliam classic, 12 Monkeys. Many are worried the new series won’t be able to capture the magic of the film, and have decided itâs nothing more than a cheap, name-sake cash grab. However, with various pieces of marketing starting to come to light, itâs beginning to appear as if 12 Monkeys, like other famed property based adaptations including Hannibal and Teen Wolf, is more than its name would have you believe. Want proof? Just check out the new trailer Syfy released today:
During New York Comic-Con, the network offered a select few a chance to see the pilot to the show, and what can be said with 100% certainty is that the latest from Nikita writers Travis Fickett and Terry Matalas is a solid piece of television. Instead of trying to mimic Gilliamâs unique brand of filmmaking, the creative team behind the show chose to take a more serious, thriller-like approach to the story of Cole and Goines. This allows for the show to go in new directions that the movieâs more darkly comedic tone may not have.
Take this trailer and the audienceâs reaction to the pilot as a good sign. This is a solid series thatâs going to make a lot of people very happy come its January 16, 2015Â premiere.
