Well now, isn’t this all just the most charming thing you’ve ever seen on a Monday morning? EH? The second trailer for what’s affectionately being dubbed the Belle & Sebastian musical movie â otherwise known as God Help the Girl â has arrived and it’s sure to convince you even more that this is the next film to put on your to-see list.
Finally giving us a bit more insight into the film’s general plot itself, God Help the Girl follows Eve (played by Emily Browning), a catastrophic sorta girl who’s got the low self esteem blues with a heaping dose of fantasy life. She loves music and, with the help of her two newfound friends â two equally as uninspired and rootless types, James (Olly Alexander) and Cass (Hannah Murray, a.k.a. Gilly from Game of Thrones, you guys!) â the three Glasgow tots form a frantic friendship while trying to form an indie pop band for the ages.
Featuring a bevy of new music and highlights from Belle & Sebastian frontman/writer/director Stuart Murdoch, the movie musical looks to tell a story that’s not all that dissimilar â at least visually and sonically â to that of The Beatles ala A Hard Day’s Night. Which is to say it looks silly, dreamy, fun, and toe-tap-y in a way that we don’t often see in movie musicals anymore. Count us in and SUPER on-board, Mr. Murdoch.
The film had a limited release this past Friday, September 5, so what are you all waiting for? A written invitation? Well consider this post it!
