Support Make-A-Wish with This Gentle Giant STAR WARS Comic-Con Exclusive

Shopping for toys at Comic-Con isn’t only about filling in holes in your collection or buying presents, it can be about doing good. Gentle Giant Ltd has revealed their final exclusive for the upcoming convention, and the droid maquette has a tie to the San Diego Chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Ten dollars from every R2-KT maquette sold will go to the charity, and it’s fitting since R2-KT was created as a tribute to a young girl named Katie who passed away at the age of seven from brain cancer.

R2-KT was created by the girl’s father, Albin Johnson (he’s also the founder of the 501st Legion). Johnson worked with master droid builder Jerry Greene and the R2 Builders Club to create the astromech, and R2-KT has been making appearances at children’s hospitals and charity events across the southeastern United States for years. The droid became part of Star Wars canon when it appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Gentle Giant’s maquette is based on photo references and looks like a spot on tiny version of the droid. The eighth scale statue stands at almost seven inches tall and is cold cast in high quality polystone. As usual with Gentle Giant’s maquettes, it’s hand painted and comes with a certificate of authenticity. The sculpt appears incredibly detailed in pictures, and I’m looking forward to seeing it person at the convention.

You’ll be able to find R2-KT at the Gentle Giant booth at Comic-Con. The maquette is limited to 500 pieces, and there is a limit of one per customer. R2-KT is priced at $80 with $10 going to Make-A-Wish.
