Support Batwoman and the Gotham Knights with a DIY Varsity Jacket

Ant Lucia’s series of Bombshells statues for DC Comics hit the right notes for many fans. Response was enthusiastic enough to give the Bombshells a month of variant covers and anongoing comic book by writer Marguerite Bennett and artist Marguerite Sauvage. Lucia’s take on Batwoman has her posing in a League of Their Own style baseball uniform–Kate Kane plays for the Gotham Knights. The design is basically perfect for t-shirts and merch, but Jessica Jem had another vision for the Gotham Knights logo. She took the concept and made a killer varsity jacket that can be worn in everyday life or be part of a rad Batwoman cosplay.

Jem shared her tutorial at The Mary Sue, and though it will involve a little time, it’s straightforward. The best part about the jacket aside from how awesome it looks? Crafting it doesn’t involve any sewing. You only need to obtain a jacket, iron-on letters, some red felt, and Heat n Bond or a similar product–Stitch Witchery might work. Cutting around the letters and placing them seems like the most challenging part. You could easily knock this craft out in an evening. And because you need to have the whole outfit, Jem has a tutorial for making Batwoman’s Gotham Knights hat too.

I love the idea of working with a group to make a whole set of Dc Comics-inspired varsity jackets. You could make up team names, logos, and colors and all go to a convention together. You know you want to do it and send us pictures.
