The season 11 winter finale of Supernatural left the Winchesters in a difficult place. That’s on point for the series. Though it certainly has beats of comedy, this isn’t the brightest and sunniest of shows. When we last saw the brothers, Sam got stuck in the cage because Lucifer tricked him, and Dean was facing off against Amara. The situation is dire. The worst villain the show has seen is back in play after being gone for several seasons, and it’s happening at the same time as another terrible threat’s arrival into the picture. Yikes. Amara is a problem, to be sure, but it looks like the Winchesters will focus on the Lucifer issue in the upcoming midseason premiere.
“The Devil in the Details” will bring the team back together, for better or worse. Dean (Jensen Ackles), Sam (Jared Padalecki), Castiel (Misha Collins), Crowley (Mark Sheppard), and Rowena (Ruth Connell) are all in Hell, presumably working on getting Sam out of the cage. Lucifer (Mark Pellegrino), of course, has an offer for Sam, but it comes with a price. Ahhh, why must my Winchesters always be put in such awful positions? And why must their beautiful faces always be bloodied and bruised? I’m guessing from the photos that Dean and Castiel’s rescue is not going well.
Lucifer has already put the vessel business on the table, and Sam’s pretty firmly against it. But what if that’s the only way Lucifer will let him out? Whatever happens, I hope Lucifer will stick around for a while. They also really need to address the Adam/Michael situation. Where is he? I need to know!
