Have you ever wondered where Superman really came from? Oh, wait, everyone knows that. Okay, but did you ever ask yourself who his real parents were? Never mind, you definitely know that too. Ah, but what about his grandparents and the history of his family? Now that’s the sweet spot for a Superman prequel, and, based on the first teaser for DC Comics and SyFy‘s upcoming new series, that’s exactly what we’ll be getting from Krypton.
We obviously don’t know as much as we think about Clark Kent’s past, because this first sneak peek promises a much deeper and older look at the events on Superman’s home planet, years before it was destroyed. Turns out the El family wasn’t always held in such high regard.
If the brief glimpse of the planet here reminds you of the opening of Man of Steel that’s because it is a prequel to the movie. Krypton is executive produced by Man of Steel writer David S. Goyer, with Sleepy Hollow‘s Damian Kindler as the series’ showrunner.
Cameron Cuffe from The Halcyon plays Seyg-El, Superman’s grandfather, with Game of Thrones‘ Ian McElhinney as Val-El, and Broadchurch‘s Georgina Campbell as Lyta Zod. Krytpon comes to SyFy in 2018. Which is good, because we obviously have a lot more to learn about Superman’s family and ill-fated home planet.
