SUPERMAN Drone Takes London

Look! In the sky! It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s a drone with a superhero duct taped to it. Okay, it’s not the same thing as Superman, but it’s the closest we’re going to get short of discovering Krypton. Regardless, it’s a pretty fun way to see a part of London you haven’t had the chance to visit personally. Take a second and watch the video above.

London-based photographer Barry Craig is behind the video. He shared it on Instagram this week and instantly got recognition for his creativity.

While Superman himself may not have plans to fly over Victoria Park in London’s East End, you can embrace a little imagination and think about how high the Man of Steel would have to be in altitude to get such a glorious view of the space. Craig accomplished the video by duct taping a Superman action figure to his Phantom 3 drone and including a camera. Given the number of negative stories we’ve heard recently that involve drones and their mishandling by eager civilians, this is a delightful turn of the conversation.

I can’t help but wonder what kind of awesome other views Craig could accomplish with his duct taped toys. I doubt London could double for Metropolis except from very specific angles, but maybe he could find some farm land that might double as Kansas. And maybe Craig’s excellent video with just a toy and a drone will inspire some eager young filmmakers to try their own with practical effects.
