Considering that all we’ve ever had (okay, going back to the 70’s) for live action Superman is someone under 30, giving us a slightly older take on the character is a welcome change. This is not Kingdom Come-aged Superman, either. Kingdom Come Superman was quite a lot older than 40.
The only thing I ask, that I beg, is that Lex Luthor *not* be in this movie. Almost every movie, and most of Smallville, and most of the animated DVDs, it’s Luthor. Enough. Give us another villain, there’s only 80 goddamn years of character history to choose from, it can’t be that hard.
Hi from Mexico He looks so damn gorgeous as Super man He’s the most handsome Man on earth and this universe. He’s a perfect creation of God.
Thanx U so much for this
The art is top notch, to be sure, but trust me when I say, as a lifelong Superman nerd, that they made the right choice with Henry Cavill. This movie is sure to be amazing.
Hamm would be the perfect Superman if his features matched exactly as it does in this drawing, sadly they do not. His face is not as wide as portrayed above.
I really like the art, but I don’t get the Hamm love. I’m not nearly nerdy enough to call myself a Superman fan (I like the franchise, but I don’t follow it too closely), but I don’t see Hamm as Superman at all. Plus, his face looks spackled on, which doesn’t help.
I liked the previous Supermen, though I wish I’d been mature enough to overlook my hormones and realize how BAD Dean Cain was. I thought he was dreamy and that mattered to teenage me more than his acting. Hopefully the new Superman has a better handle on it, or my hormones might have to take over again!
Phil Noto is great and makes Hamm into Superman. He’s not as good as Reeves, but he’s better than any other actor I’ve seen, well other than Clint Walker who would have made a better Superman than Reeve (and who I’ve read Noto sometimes thinks of when drawing Superman).
Not that he is too old but that the movie people seem to think that only people under 25 go to the movies or like superheroes any more 🙁
But also, to be fair, they want someone younger so that they can have sequels if it’s successful…Superman can’t look like he’s aged much between movies. Hamm will probably look a lot older in the next decade.
I love to look at Brandon Routh, but he was not good at all as Superman (although his acting improved a LOT from when he was on One Life to Live). That’s why they surrounded him with tons of great actors, so he would not carry the movie. And, I hated his hair, too. Plus if he was that good, he would be doing the next movie….obviously they don’t like him in the role or think that he was good enough to carry the movie and its sequel.
They’ve never really had a Superman I thought was as good as the comics. Kirk Alyn was too short and thin.
George Reeves was too fat for the costume — he was certainly broad-shouldered enough to do him justice, though, and he looked great as Clark Kent.
Christopher Reeve was probably the best one, but his voice was too high. Superman should have a deeper voice.
Dean Cain was probably the second best, with Tom Welling third. Tom Welling really was better as a Superboy than Superman. He’s not broad enough to be Superman and still looks too boyish.
This new guy looks ok, but we’ll have to see how he looks on screen.
Yes, 40 is too old for Hamm to be considered for a live-action Superman, especially since Phil was a bit generous with Hamm’s hairline in his artwork.
I wouldn’t say no to Hamm turning in a vocal performance for an animated Superman direct-to-DVD/Blu Ray project, though. His MAD MEN co-stars certainly seem willing to do them.
Wow, he actually looks like he could’ve pulled it off. I like John Hamm as an actor and who knows if he would’ve been the better Superman. I agree with Nicholas though, Brandan Routh and Christopher Reeves had something to them that said they were sons of Krypton.
Great art, really good art, but no to Hamm as Superman, ever. He just really doesn’t seem right for the role. Reeves and Routh had something that just clicked.
He looks good as Superman!
I personally think Jon would’ve been great as Superman. But I understand the reasons why people might not think it would work.
But I see no reason at all why he wouldn’t be a completely awesome Captain Marvel.
I hear conan is looking for work.
I’m still holding out for the cast of Mad Men to morph into the cast of the ’66 Batman.
Superman is so…meh
There, it had to be said.

I dunno.
It’s a bit too… hammy.
*Crowd boos*

Where’s the freakin’ love for the awesomeness of Phil Noto?

I will need to see it from the back (no cape) before I decide…..

Seriously? Routh as Superman SUCKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would so let Jon Hamm as Superman save me.
he should play superman in a kingdom come movie
John Hamm has the look of a Superman that would knock up Lois and Lana at the same time 4 time zones apart. Take that for what it’s worth.
So very very hot
reeves? eeehhh. routh? hell no. routh maybe had the height and the hair, but that’s about it. his acting was atrocious.

There is NO way this shouldnt happen I mean seriously he is PERFECT! and makeup does wonderful things!
