SUPERGIRL Welcomes Miss Martian, Benedict Cumberbatch on SNL, and More TV News

Sunday night saw the return of The Walking Dead, and even if I didn’t keep tabs on television news, I’d know about it because Twitter was lit. It seemed like most people I follow were discussing the events of the premiere. Let’s talk about it in today’s TV-Cap, and let’s take a look at the debut of Miss Martian in Supergirl, get some scoop on the second season of Jessica Jones, and more.

Warning: Spoilers follow for The Walking Dead. Move your eyes to the Supergirl clip just below if you haven’t seen the episode.

A Satisfied Lucille. The premiere of The Walking Dead’s seventh season brought answers to the cliffhanger from season six but not without making viewers wait. We eventually learned the identities of the people Negan killed—yes, people, just as we suspected in our theory. Abraham and Glenn got up close views of Lucille, and it sounds like their ends were incredibly brutal. Read Joseph’s recap of the episode here at Nerdist.

The President and a Martian. Monday night’s Supergirl, “Welcome to Earth,” features the debut of two intriguing characters: President Marsdin, played by Lynda Carter, and Miss Martian, played by Sharon Leal. Watch clips showing and teasing the characters above. [CBR]

Strange SNL. Set your DVR to record Saturday Night Live on November 5, because Benedict Cumberbatch will be taking on hosting duties. [TVLine]

Almost Made It. Gilmore Girls fans gathered for a mini-convention in Connecticut over the weekend, and some crew from the original series shared some behind-the-scenes tidbits. You can read some of the best of them at TVLine, but I’ll tell you one: Ryan Gosling almost made it in the show as a football player. The casting director had recommended him for the small role, but unfortunately, his audition wasn’t so impressive. [Nerdist]

“Cheating.” Game of Thrones vets Finn Jones and Jessica Henwick both have roles in 2017’s Iron Fist, and their existing connection helped them with their auditions. Find out how right here at Nerdist.

Hello, Anne. Netflix and CBC have tied up some casting for their upcoming adaptation of Anne of Green Gables, titled Anne. Amybeth McNulty will take on the lead role of the young Anne, and R.H. Thomson and Geraldine James will play Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert. [Nerdist, Images: CBC]

Ladies in the House. The second season of Jessica Jones is still months away from beginning production, but showrunner Melissa Rosenberg’s been sharing tidbits about story and more practically since season one ended. During a conference about diversifying entertainment last week, Rosenberg announced season two will feature only female directors. [Nerdist]

Dream Team. Ready for this? Amy Poehler is executive producer on a new comedy from Universal Television, and ABC has committed to a pilot for the project. These are good things, but guess who’s starring in the comedy? Carol Burnett. Yep. We’ll keep you posted when/if the series gets picked up. [The Hollywood Reporter]

Hacker Drama. Films going to TV is par for the course these days, and hacker drama Sneakers is the latest title to take the jump. The 1992 film starring Robert Redford has been put in development at NBC. Producers are lined up, including former The Mentalist exec Tom Szentgyorgy. [Deadline]

What’d You Miss? If you spent the weekend away from your television, you missed new TV. Once you’ve caught up, we have recaps to help you catch all the details you might have missed; read our rundowns of Westworld, Star Wars Rebels, and all of the brand new episodes of Black Mirror.

Are you still invested in The Walking Dead after last night’s premiere? Tell me in the comments.
