SUPER SMASH BROS. ULTIMATE Lets You Play All of the Characters

For nearly 20 years, Nintendo has allowed you and your friends to beat the living tar out of each other using the most popular characters from various Nintendo games. Super Smash Bros. was the ultimate fighting game for people who liked Mario and Link and stuff. Over the years, through four different games and dozens of DLC characters, people have developed their own personal favorite fighters, but have often lamented at the lack of some characters in certain titles, and going back to the older games means losing newer characters. But not anymore!

In Nintendo‘s E3 presentation, director Masahiro Sakarai introduces us to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, a game that allows you to play every single character who’s ever been in a Smash Bros. game, plus a few extras too. Here’s the presentation.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is not a misnomer (though we doubt it’ll be the last such game); it is the ultimate version of the game, featuring all the characters you love, plus statistically some of the characters you never played and will never play. It’s absurd! Mainstays like Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Peach, and Mega Man are here, as are newer faves like Sonic and a bunch of characters from Fire Emblem, but you’ll also get returning faves like Snake from Metal Gear, and a billion and five Pokemon (an exaggeration, but barely).

Some of the game’s new-new characters include ink-firing cephalopod people from Splatoon, and Ridley, the giant space dragon from Metroid. Mario is even able to use Cappy, and fight in his wedding and Super Mario Maker gear.

It’s legitimately the most amount of characters under one game’s roof, and there’s a heap of new and returning stages and smash abilities. Get ready, because Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will hit the Switch in December of this year!
