SUPER SMASH BROS. 3DS/Wii U Adds Charizard And Greninja To The Roster

Nintendo took to Twitch.tv for the first time ever to give us the inside scoop on the highly anticipated new Super Smash Bros. games. Among today’s announcements, we got release windows for both the 3DS and Wii U versions– this summer and winter respectively– and a first look at the newest fighters in the Super Smash Bros. arena. First up Greninja:

For those of you who may have left your Pokédex at your local Starbucks, Greninja is an agile amphibious ninja Pokémon, who’s known mostly for his ridiculously long tongue that wraps around his neck in a scarf-esque fashion (swallow that, Gene Simmons). He’ll be joining the cast along with another Pokémon, Charizard, who doesn’t look any less ferocious than he did on his old holographic trading card.

The 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. adds a cool skirmish mode called “Smash Run”, which serves as a replacement to “Adventure Mode,” and allows four players to commence in a side-scrolling beat-em-up style bout against NPCs and opponents. It was also announced that both versions of the game will include online multiplayer, with modes for both casual and hardcore players to hop into and play.

The rest of the livestream focused primarily on the technical aspects of the game, like the ability to play as the male Wii Fit trainer and Yoshi getting a total posture readjustment. Oh, and I think it’s safe to say that the character Little Mac will cause the most problems for anyone standing across from him in the arena. But then again, he is the guy who “punched out” Mike Tyson in his own game.

Tell us what you think about all of this Super Smash Bros. goodness in the comments and be sure to check out the entire Super Smash Bros. Direct livestream down below if you missed it earlier.
