Revisit SUPER METROID Like You’ve Never Seen It Before

How good are you at Super Metroid? I know, many of you out there have probably already mastered this classic in its normal form, but what if rooms were tilted 90 degrees clockwise? That means walls become floors and floors become walls. You can watch the above clip from YouTube user SMILEuser96 for a better understanding of how wacky it looks.

What you’re looking at in the video above is a rotation manipulation. My only question is whether the game is actually beatable when rotated like this. Sure, it works for Brinstar (the level featured in the above demonstration), but how would it apply to the rest of the adventure?

This would most certainly create an interesting challenge for speedrunners. It’d be fun to watch the best Metroid players try and complete the whole game quickly with this trick. It would take plenty of dexterity and expert wall-jumping. It also appears as though you must be very knowledgable about the game’s breakable walls, because things can get very confusing once everything is turned on its side.

Speedrunners aren’t the only gamers who might have fun with this challenge. Many of us grew up on the adventures of Samus Aran, so introducing a new challenge would make it a great reason to return to this gem. It sort of reminds me of one of the challenges from NES Remix, but you know, with a Super Nintendo game.

Do you guys want to play this topsy-turvy version of Super Metroid? Would it be impossible to complete in this state? Let us know in the comments below.
