SUPER FRIENDS, Disney, SIMPSONS, and More Animation History Up for Grabs

Pool together your credits, friends, because Profiles in History is putting all kinds of original artwork and animation production cels on the market. The selection is heavy on pieces from Disney animated films (and why wouldn’t it be) but also includes iconic characters from The Simpsons, Akira, and even Ralph Bakshi’s Lord of the Rings. Estimated prices go as high as $60,000 for a set of original Pinocchio paintings to $200 for pieces like this serious looking Wonder Woman:

I didn’t measure the amounts of drool that fell out of my mouth while I perused the items on the auction block, but if I would have, I think my saliva drop rate would have been highest for this concept piece for Sleeping Beauty by Eyvind Earle.

Even if you don’t have room in your budget to add original animation cels or Disneyana to your personal collection, it’s still worthwhile to browse the listings. I’ve included some of my favorites in the gallery below, including a cel from Star Trek: The Animated Series, a Marge Simpson cel that aired in a short during The Tracey Ullman Show, a Cinderella script, a cel from The Little Mermaid, and more. If you have time to fall into a rabbit hole, you can flip through the auction pages at eBay (link below). You’ll be floored by the sheer quantity of art and memorabilia included.

The live auction takes place on Friday, June 9, at 11:00a.m. Will you be bidding on any items? If you had, say, $35,000 to spend on this auction, what would you choose? Share your list in the comments below.
