Stretch Goals Reached, Comcept Teases a MIGHTY NO. 9 CG Animated Series

With production of the crowdfunded Mega Man-like Mighty No. 9 underway at developer Comcept, you might be wondering what else is next for robotic hero Beck. He’s headed to TV (maybe), according to an announcement from the developer over the weekend.

Comcept have teamed up with CG production studio Digital Frontier to produce an animated series based on Mighty No. 9. According to an FAQ on the game’s site, the animated Mighty No. 9 “will be an action-packed comedy aimed at kids 6-11.”

Currently, the series is seeking investment (althogh given the $4 million haul for the game’s Kickstarter, I’m surprised they’re not going that route). At this time, the series doesn’t have a creative team or voice talent attached, but Comcept and Digital Frontier are hoping for a worldwide release when it’s completed.

The story of Mighty No. 9 is being developed by Mega Man co-creator Keiji Inafune, and features a story which might be somewhat familiar to fans of the Blue Bomber. According to the developer:

“You play as Beck, the 9th in a line of powerful robots, and the only one not infected by a mysterious computer virus that has caused mechanized creatures the world over to go berserk. Run, jump, blast, and transform your way through six stages you can tackle in any order you choose, using weapons and abilities stolen from your enemies to take down your fellow Mighty Number robots and confront the final evil that threatens the planet!”

Japanese studio Digital Frontier worked on the live-action/CG Jellyfish Eyes, the completely bonkers CG feature Tekken: Blood Vengeance, and they even have a Capcom connection, having worked on the CG zombie feature, Resident Evil: Damnation.
