Stream CHVRCHES’ New Album Right Here, Right Now

If you’re not yet familiar with the Scottish electronic trio CHVRCHES, it’s not too late to get with the program. Every Open Eye, the much-anticipated follow-up to their debut album The Bones of What You Believe, is about to drop on September 25, and you can stream it below, courtesy of NPR First Listen.

This album dips into a similar emotional palette explored in their first offering, featuring thoughtful, intimate lyrics that suggest longing, heartbreak and regret. I’m happy to say though, that in true CHVRCHES style–they also make us want to get down and move to the beat.  It’s a difficult combination that (lead singer) Lauren Mayberry tackles, yet she does it gracefully.

“Keep You On My Side” is a standout in my opinion: “We bide our time, stay afloat, keeping’ the sun up off our boat / I never asked to know, I never planned, till it was swept out of my hand,” Mayberry sings. These sweeping lyrics are so simple, yet beautiful and picturesque. Then the hook will be in your head for days, “we feel the same without restraint, we feel the same within our veins.”
