It has been seven turbulent years since Bloc Party emerged with Silent Alarm and gave indie kids, nerdy gear heads, and The OC viewers an anthemic album to call their own. But as the foursome forfeited acerbic call-and-answer guitar licks in favor of foghorn synths/monkey suits and internal quarreling led to breakup rumors, the Bloc Party from those halcyon days seemed increasingly remote. After weathering all the caustic effects of rapid fame and the crippling expectations of the media cycle and fans, the London foursome is back with Four, which you can stream right now. I am excited, but skeptical. The number reads like a tacit acknowledgment that against all odds, they have resurfaced, all four of them, unscathed. It reads like an accomplishment, like a milestone. But ultimately I have to be much more invested in how it sounds. Let us know what you think below.

Giving it a listen right now. Been a fan of Bloc Party since I first heard “I Still Remember” on an indie station about 2 months before ‘Weekend In The City’ dropped(how did they have it to play I wonder?) and been following them ever since. I like ‘Intimacy’ quite a bit, but it didn’t grab me the way ‘Silent Alarm’ and ‘Weekend In The City’ did. And Okereke’s solo album was really mediocre so I was pretty worried they would never get back to heartfelt post-punk goodness.
Hopefully ‘Four’ proves me wrong.
any reference to the OC makes me laugh.
