One of the most iconic bits of imagery from the first season of Stranger Things is Joyce Byers’ use of the Christmas lights to make herself a make-shift Ouija board on the wall of her home, in order to communicate with her missing son Will. Of course, we know Will wasn’t actually dead, merely trapped in the other dimensional plane we call “the Upside Down.”
Nevertheless, the principals of Joyce’s Christmas light contraption were the exact same as the world famous spirit board game. Given the similarities, it’s a bit shocking that it took so long to make a Stranger Things themed Ouija Board, but here we are.
Now, thanks to the folks at Super Punch (via BoingBoing.net), you can now purchase the Stranger Things Ouija board for only $19.99. This is an officially licensed Ouija Board made by Hasbro, so this isn’t called a “ghost board” or a “spirit communicator” like they always call those knock-off Ouija Boards. Nope, this is the real deal, with Joyce Byers (Winona Ryder) and Chief Hopper (David Harbour) right there on the box. You can check out the official description from Hasbro down below:
“Supernatural forces were uncovered, a young boy was rescued from a parallel dimension, and monstersâboth human and otherworldlyâwere defeated. Gather around the Ouija: Stranger Things Edition game, if you dare, and unlock secrets from a mysterious and mystifying world of the Upside Down.
Inspired by the Netflix Original Series Stranger Things this game board features the alphabet spelled out with Christmas lights like in the iconic light wall scene from the show (board does not light up). Summon the courage to ask the Ouija board questions about what happened in the Upside Down, as well as anything else youâd like to know. Will the planchette spell out the answers that you seek? Handle the Ouija board with respect, and it won’t disappoint you!”
This one’s perfect for your next Stranger Things themed party, if you’re just too lazy to get the Christmas lights out of the garage, and maybe just don’t want to ruin your walls. You can pre-order the Ouija board now by heading over to Super Punch.
Are you ready to freak yourself out Winona Ryder style with a Stranger Things Ouija Board? Remember, “it’s just a game!” At least that’s what the tagline says. Be sure to let us know down below in the comments.
