Though it kind of came out of nowhere last year, Stranger Things quickly captured the cultural zeitgeist in a way that I hadn’t seen a TV series do since Lost. Part of this is due to the fact that the horror/sci-fi hybrid paid homage to Stephen King and Steven Spielberg, and the ’80s as a whole, hitting us all in our nostalgic feels.
But it was the young cast of kids who really made Stranger Things such a welcome series. Now, with filming underway for the much anticipated second season, the show’s young actors are teasing what comes next. And according to them, Stranger Things season two is definitely going to amp up the horror angle big time.
In an interview with Emmy magazine (via Polygon), actor Gaten Matarazzo, who plays Dustin Henderson, explained that the four main kids will all still be coming to grips with the insane events of season one, even though season two will take place a year later, in 1984. âThe great thing about this season is you get to see insights into each character on their own,” he said. “Youâre going to see a lot more into the lives of how the characters are coping with whatâs been going on.”
Mattarazzo continued, “Theyâre all very emotionally scarred. They feel alone because their best friend [Will Byers] is back and heâs not acting like their best friend anymore. Heâs changed [since returning from the Upside Down].â Well, he might have changed, but Will still knows how to rock a Ghostbusters Halloween costume at least.
In fact, all of the kids seem to think that this upcoming season is going to be far more scary, and therefore more popular, than the first year was. In the video, which you can see down below, you can watch Matarazzo and costars Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair), and Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler) talk about the upcoming season. They also touch on the special thrill of meeting their favorite celebs in the wake of the show’s first season success, including Matt Damon, Meryl Streep, and even President Obama.
The second season of Stranger Things begins streaming on Netflix, appropriately enough, on Halloween.
