STRANGER THINGS Concept Art, Spider-Gwen in ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN, and More TV News

Will there be a day when we stop thinking about Stranger Things? If so, I don’t want to imagine it. We’re going to explore the Upside Down for some concept art in today’s TV-Cap, and we’re also going to take a look at Spider-Gwen in Ultimate Spider-Man vs. the Sinister 6, see what The 100 cast has to tease about season four, and more.

Not Alone. What did early stages of the Upside Down look like in Netflix’s Stranger Things? What were possibilities for a more grotesque death for one of the characters for the series? Is the Demogorgon the only creature in the Upside Down? We discuss how some concept art addresses these questions in the latest Nerdist News; watch it above. [Nerdist]

Nothing but the Best. Superman: The Animated Series is about to hit its 20th anniversary on September 7, and to celebrate, Kyle A. examined the episodes and ranked the top 11. You can view his picks here at Nerdist.

Big Screen to Small. Amazon is adding a title to the “movies turned into TV shows” list with an adaptation of The Departed. The 2006 Oscar winner directed by Martin Scorsese will be a crime drama series written by Jason Richman and will take place in present day Chicago. Read more right this way.

No One Kill Kenny. It’s a day to discuss 20th things, apparently. The Paley Center for Media is honoring South Park’s 20th season with the South Park 20 Experience. The exhibit features 20 2D and 3D life-size replicas of characters and scenes from the Comedy Central series and a collection of curated artwork. The exhibit will run through September 25 and is free to attend. Learn more at their website. [Image: The Paley Center for Media]

Finally! I’m in favor of adding Spider-Gwen to all the things, and she’s set to make her animated debut in Disney XD’s Ultimate Spider-Man vs. The Sinister 6. Dove Cameron will voice the character, and Gwen will appear in the September 17 episode that’s part four of the “Return to the Spider-Verse” story. [Nerdist, Image: Disney XD/IGN]

Traveling Between Dreams. USA’s Falling Water presents a connected world where people can invade dreams, and you can imagine the serious repercussions that could result from people abusing such an ability. What if people try to use the skill to control people? The latest trailer for the spooky series explores that. Falling Water is slated to premiere on October 13. [Nerdist]

Casting Tidbits. Let’s run through some casting news! Gotham will bring the Mad Hatter’s sister, Alice Tetch, into season three, and she’ll be played by Naian Gonzalez Norvind in a recurring guest role. Jumping to Hulu’s adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s The Handmaid’s Tale, Joseph Fiennes has been cast as the male lead, Commander Fred Waterford. And over at EPIX, Chris O’Dowd is set to play Miles Daly in their take on Get Shorty. [Variety, Deadline, Slashfilm]

Sweater Vest Love. Weird Al Yankovic is getting animated in his new series for Disney XD, Milo Murphy’s Law. It centers on 13-year-old Milo, a descendent of the man who defined Murphy’s Law. He has to deal with the unique problem of having constant bad luck. But is it bad luck if you have a positive attitude about it? The theme song just debuted, and it’s peppy. The animated series arrives on October 3. [Nerdist]

No More Magic. The arrival of Damien Darhk in season four of Arrow meant the season included lots of magical and mystical elements, but that won’t be the case in season five. Series executive producer Wendy Mericle told IGN they’re going back to basics. She said, “I think for season five, just because it is an answer to season one, and we are sort of closing this chapter out, we did want to go back to our roots and figure out what is specific to this show. What is our universe? Go back to, ‘What is Arrow?'” Read the rest of the interview at IGN.

Scary Business. The 100 is the kind of show that will always keep you on the edge of your seat waiting for the next terrible thing to happen. So what awful traumas will the characters have to process in season four? We spoke with them and the series showrunner at Comic-Con about what’s ahead, and you can watch the interview in the above video. [Nerdist]
