Stormtrooper Helmets Get Colorful in the STAR WARS Legion Exhibit

In April 2014, Lucasfilm teamed with Neff to celebrate May the 4th in a unique way. They gave 300 artists–including fans and employees of The Walt Disney Company–six inch replicas of the stormtrooper helmets seen in Star Wars Rebels to transform however they wanted. The result was the Star Wars Legion exhibit. It was packed with one-of-a-kind pieces of galactic art that debuted at the Robert Vargas Gallery in Los Angeles.

Some helmets from the project have hit the road, and a few dozen of them were on display at D23 Expo. The artful helmets fit in perfectly with a showcase on the evolution of stormtrooper armor showing its early days to the new First Order armor for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It was also fitting that Star Wars Legion helmets were at D23 Expo since Disney introduced new collectibles inspired by the exhibit. They created miniature vinyl versions of eight of the helmets from the project and sold them in blind boxes.

Though I admire and covet many of the helmets on display, I especially liked Eric Acasio’s contribution. He turned the helmet into an Imperial taco truck. How can you go wrong with that? I’d like to see an entire exhibit devoted to Star Wars food trucks, please.

The gallery below is just a small sampling of the 300 vinyl stormtrooper helmets modified for the project. You can knock yourself out and look at all of the helmets at StarWars.com.

Are you as obsessed with the Imperial taco truck as I am? If not, tell me which other helmet designs you like best.
