Stop Everything and Eat Pork Ramen-Flavored Candy

If Willy Wonka’s Three-Course-Dinner Gum sounds like your kind of meal, then we have good news — it’s close to becoming a reality. This is Roald Dahl’s world, we’re just living in it. The idea of candy tasting like savory things is nothing new: see bacon lollipops or bacon anything. Well, move over, bacon! Now there’s something porkier trying to corner the sweets market.

Product company Nissen and candy company PINE came up with a campaign asking for suggestions for new flavor ideas. Asking the Hive mind can sometimes have strange and dangerous results; after all, this is how we ended up with chicken and waffles-flavored potato chips. Out of the 6,000 submissions they received, an idea for tonkatsu ramen soup candy was declared the winner… because toting around a bowl of soup is obviously too cumbersome. When you want soup, you want to reach into your purse and just have soup, you know what I mean?

Both companies spent a long five months in R&D to make the candy just right. (I expect it involved exploding test tubes and excited lab rats jumping up and down at the ready with chopsticks.) The candies look like little hard candy drops you’d find in any grandma’s candy bowl except these have that thick, creamy pork flavor.

If you’d like to try them for yourself, the sweet and salty candies are available online from Nissen.com for $2.81 for a 3.5-ounce pack. However, we have some bad news for noodle soup-lovers — it’s currently on back order due to high demand. Clearly people are stocking up on pork ramen candies for the apocalypse because what else would you want with you at the end of the world?

Would you try pork ramen-flavored candy? Let us know in the comments!
