Stephen King Inspired Art Show Is Beautiful, Kooky and Creepy

Stephen King Inspired Art Show Is Beautiful, Kooky and Creepy

There is arguably no one person alive who has contributed to modern American horror more than author Stephen King. For over forty years now, his novels, of which there are now over fifty, have sold over 350 million copies worldwide, and he’s created tons of iconic characters along the way. Movie adaptations of his books have become classics, like Carrie, Misery, and The Shining (even if he disowns the Stanley Kubrick film version).

Pennywise from his novel It completely screwed up an entire generation when it comes to fear of clowns. And even his non-horror or suspense books and stories have been translated into film classics, like Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption. And all that is just scratching the surface when it comes to King’s iconic works.

Now the folks at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles, which specializes in pop culture-inspired art, have a new show dedicated to celebrating the work of Stephen King. Included are pieces which show such iconic King characters as Carrie White getting the pig’s blood dumped on her at her senior prom, or the Torrance family from The Shining getting ready for a long stay at the Overlook Hotel.

The titular possessed car from the novel Christine is featured in a piece as well, and of course, there is plenty of Pennywise the Clown, and much more. Among the artists featuring work in the exhibit are Geoff Trapp, Adam Augustyn, Ania Tomika, Beau Berkley, Bennett Slater, Brett Crawford, Dan Litzinger, and David Vordtriede. You can see a sample of their pieces down below in our image gallery, or just click on their names to see more.

If you’re in Southern California, you can see the entire Stephen King inspired art collection in person from May 5 through May 27 at Gallery 1988, located at 7308 Melrose Ave, Los Angeles, CA. And for those of you not close to the LA area, you can see all the art over at  Gallery 1988’s website.
