Stephen Colbert has been away from the lime light and the television studio camera for about six months now, and we all know that has been far too long. While waiting for the his set to finish being built, Colbert has gotten a little antsy about waiting, so he decided to the next best thing to hosting The Tonight Show: he took over a public access program in Michigan. Back on June 30th, Colbert sat in as the host of Monroe, Michigan’s local public access show Only In Monroe for the day, and brought his iconic style of comedy with him in an interview with Eminem.
But it wasn’t a total subversion, Colbert made sure he didn’t skip any part of the show’s usual set up, offering local news before taking it upon himself to settle a long running dispute that has been tearing the county apart. Colbert didn’t want the focus entirely on him, though, and made sure to keep it all about Michigan and their natives, like Marshall Mathers. Stephen made sure to have Em prove his Detroit credentials by singing Bob Segar songs before talking about the movie Southpaw, of which produced and did the soundtrack. Finally Stephen and Em both read off the upcoming event calendar for Monroe.
The episode is up on The Tonight Show’s YouTube channel, so if you have 40 minutes to dedicate to some Colbert goodness, check it out. Otherwise skip ahead to here for the Eminem interview. Also be sure to let us know your favorite part in the comments below!
