Stephen Colbert Brings THE LEGEND OF ZELDA’s Music to Late Night TV

Stephen Colbert’s brief tenure as host of The Late Show has been notable for bringing a lot of change to the late night talk show landscape, and those changes include giving video games the respect that other forms of popular entertainment enjoy. Earlier this month, Colbert had Sean Murray, a creator of the upcoming game No Man’s Sky, as a guest to show off a gameplay demo of the game.

Colbert showed that his interest in gaming will be a lasting part of the program last night, as his musical guest was the Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses, an orchestra that performs music from the Legend of Zelda games. Watch the group perform a medley of songs from past Zelda games, and the upcoming Nintendo 3DS game The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes above.

Colbert’s acceptance of video games and gaming culture as a serious mainstream interest contrasts fellow late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel’s stance, who doesn’t seem to understand the appeal, and has recently devoted significant chunks of Jimmy Kimmel Live to poking fun at video games, their fans and YouTube users who produce Let’s Play videos.

Conan O’Brien has also showed an understanding of video game culture, as his show produces a weekly livestream, Stream Coco Live: Monday Melee, where Conan staffer Aaron Bleyaert plays a current video game live with actors, athletes and people from the gaming industry as guests.

In case four minutes of Legend of Zelda: Symphony of the Goddesses wasn’t enough, the group tours around the country on a consistent basis, so check out their live performance schedule here, and let us know in the comments what video game series you think has the best music.
