Step Inside a Gallery of STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Costumes and Props

When Star Wars Celebration opened its doors for exhibitor set-up and badge pickup early last week, news about an exhibit for Star Wars: The Force Awakens started to trickle onto social media. The room wasn’t put into the center spotlight—as far as I can remember, it wasn’t mentioned in the kickoff panel on Thursday—and was tucked away on the second floor next to smaller panel rooms. The exhibit was listed on signage, but despite that, I heard many people say they didn’t know anything about it. Luckily, I took plenty of photos.

Enough people were aware of the mysterious room to form a line that rarely dipped under an hour in total wait time. Patient attendees were rewarded with an up-close look at models, props, and costumes from the upcoming Star Wars film, and once inside the single room exhibit, there was no rushing through. You were given as much time as you wanted to roam around the mini museum to take photos and/or stare.

Some pieces on display were tied to imagery we’d already seen in the first and second teasers for The Force Awakens, such as costumes and concept art for Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega), Kylo Ren, stormtroopers, and BB-8. Then there was a model of an X-wing (with BB-8 in the back!) and the Millennium Falcon. But the unassuming display revealed a couple of new phrases that have an air of importance: the Resistance and the First Order. The X-wing was labeled “Resistance X-Wing Fighter” and the placard says they’re fighting against the First Order. The Stormtroopers were called “First Order Stormtroopers,” and other specialized First Order costumes were on display too: a Snowtrooper and a Flametrooper.

I love that Lucasfilm used this approach to slip us a few new details about Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Be sure to flip through the entire gallery of images below to take it all in.
