Stay Rebellious with HUNGER GAMES-Inspired Fashion

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is finally here! Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) will help push the rebellion against President Snow forward whether she wants to or not as she becomes the symbol of the uprising. Fashion has played a role in shaping Katniss into that symbol. From the mockingjay pin to the fiery outfits Cinna designed for her, the clothes are more than what they seem. And they have the added bonus of being attractive.

The Hunger Games provides plenty of cosplay inspiration, but there are several pieces and accessories from the films that you can incorporate into your everyday wardrobe. Here are some ideas to add a touch of Panem to your closet:

Mockingjay Pin

Katniss’ mockingjay pin is a classic. The pin she wears into the arena becomes a symbol for an uprising against the Capitol and President Snow. Though replicas are often bronze or gold, I like this silver design from NECA. Pin it to your lapel or a tie to keep the spirit of the rebellion with you at all times.

Katniss’ Scarf from Catching Fire

Katniss is back in District 12 at the beginning of Catching Fire, and she wears an asymmetrical cowl-scarf to keep the cold at bay. The design fits the rustic environment of the district, and it’s a practical pullover fo Katniss to wear when she goes hunting. She gets an extra layer of warmth without restricting movement when she shoots. Many sellers have patterns available for the design, but if you can’t crochet or knit, you can buy one. The above cowl by Mama’s Lil Sugar Crochet is made from a wool blend and costs $80.

President Snow’s Flower Lapel Pin

President Snow seems to have luxurious tastes, and he’s always dressed in crisp and stylish suits. He wears a white rose on his lapel, and though he dons the flower to cover the smell of blood, you can just wear the rose because it looks pretty. Etsy store Bent Spoon Jewelry offers several lapel vase pins that look similiar to what Snow wears on screen. The pins are made from repurposed silverware, and you can fill them with real or fake.

Katniss’ Boots from The Hunger Games

The lace-up boots Katniss wears when we first meet her in The Hunger Games were a much sought after item after the film’s release. They look comfortable enough to wear out in the woods all day, and they look durable. They’re Frye boots, specifically the Melissa Tall Lace style. They are not exactly cheap, but you can find similar boots for more affordable options.

Mockingjay Military Jacket

Mockingjay – Part 1 introduces a new style with the military uniforms in District 13. The designs are simple and feature grays and blacks. Etsy seller Suzette’s Upcycled Altered Unique Clothing for Women took a military style jacket and applied some Mockingjay-inspired touches including the mockingjay symbol and a shoulder pocket with the number 12. It’s a little more on the cosplay side than the other items on this list, but I think it would look great paired with black shirt, jeans, and boots.
