Stare Forever at a Perfect Game of Snake

Remember Snake? The only game that you could play on your brick of a cell phone about a decade ago? It was simple, addictive, and stressful. You probably got pretty far, but eating your own tail always seemed inevitable. A perfect game where every possible pixel was filled with your serpentine avatar? Impossible.

Well, prepare to stress out and then experience extreme relief. Below is a perfect game of Snake. Yes, you’re allowed to stare at it for the full two minutes the GIF takes to finish.

Beating-Snake

The GIF above was posted to a Russian website a few years ago claiming to be a perfect Snake run. It’s undoubtedly impressive, but a little misleading. The GIF is sped up. Whoever completed this winding gauntlet actually took over 13 minutes to do so. So yes, the turns made by the player are superhuman in the image above, but the run still happened.

The message that plays at the end isn’t a killscreen either. Translated by Russian-speaking redditors, the end screen says, “And now we are going to show you a cartoon. Dialing up the server,” whatever that meant at the time.

Brings back memories doesn’t it? Fingers poking at a keypad on a plastic block from Nokia…the insufferable lag time between button press and snake movement…the feeling of accomplishment rushing out of your body as you realized you weren’t prepared to grab more than 10 blocks…the squinting at a screen worse than a calculator’s. Ah. That’s nice.

What ancient game do you wish you could see a complete GIF of? Let us know in the comments below.
