With The Last Jedi now less than a month away from hitting theaters, Disney has kicked its promotion for the film into hyperdrive with a barrage of new commercials. But the latest one, titled “Tempt,” might be the most intriguing of the bunch. The video strongly hints that the path Rey will chose to follow won’t be to either the Light or Dark Side, but rather one somewhere between the two.
While this ad has plenty of footage we’ve already seen in other teasers and trailers, it focuses on Rey’s training with Luke. When he asks her what she sees when she closes her eyes, she tells him, “Light, darkness, and something else.”
Whatever it is Rey’s experiencing, and whatever it is that is beckoning her, it freaks Luke out. And as if his scream for her to “resist it” wasn’t ominous enough, the sequence is intercut with shots of Snoke and Kylo Ren reaching out.
Considering Rey seems to be seeing a path that exists between light and darkness, we would say those of you who believe this new Star Wars trilogy is leading towards Rey becoming a Gray Jedi who will bring balance to the Force might be right on the credits.
But it’s not like we needed this commercial to tempt us into finding out the answer to that question anyway. We’ve known our own paths will lead us to theaters on December 15 when it finally comes out.
