Will Rey and Kylo Ren Team Up in THE LAST JEDI?

It’s only been two days since we got the new trailer for The Last Jedi, which means we’re not even close to breaking it all down. That’s why on today’s Nerdist News Talks Back we held our second straight all Star Wars extravaganza.

Flying off to the galaxy far, far away with host Jessica Chobot was senior news producer Jesse Gill, Director of Development Brendon Schulze, and our editor-in-chief Rachel Heine. They started with that dramatic final scene from the end of the trailer–when Kylo Ren seemed to put his hand out to Rey–and whether we might actually see the two team up. Was that moment real, or merely clever editing? Does it even matter, because the sentiment might still hold true? Are Daisy Ridley’s previous comments about Rey being disillusioned with Luke also true for Kylo with Snoke, driving them to one another? And if Kylo wasn’t reaching out to her, who might be on the other side of that gesture?

But for as loaded as the trailer was, there were plenty of things missing from it. Are we glad elements like the casino planet Canto Bight, new character Rose, and a reported Luke/Rey showdown with the Knights of Ren were left out? And what are our wildest theories for the film? If we watch the trailer enough times, will we answer all these questions on our own? (We’re certainly trying.)

Finally, there is plenty of minutia to analyze from the trailer to analyze (that’s what we do), like all the sweet new ships, whether there was enough BB-8 (never), and if those Gorilla Walkers can avoid being brought down by the most technologically advanced weapon ever–rope tied around their legs.

Nerdist News Talks Back was live today, just like it is every weekday, at 1:00 p.m. PST on our YouTube and Alpha channels. When you tune in with us you can get in on the conversation.

We really hope you do, because we’re going to be spending the next couple of months watching this trailer on repeat, and the only thing better than doing that is getting to talk about it with other fans.

Talk back to us now though about today’s show by sharing your thoughts in the comments below.
