Star Wars: The Last Jedi was notable for many reasons. It was the biggest film of the year, it was one of the most controversial, it introduced new uses of the Force into mainstream canon, and it was a film whose production was extensively documented. That means we’ve got multiple incredible behind-the-scenes featurettes, as well as a full-length documentary that’s included on the digital and Blu-ray editions. Home entertainment tech company Vizio has gotten in on the action with a rad short focused on the digital wizardry that brought to life the long-awaited showdown between John Boyega’s Finn and Gwendoline Christie’s Captain Phasma.
The featurette includes interviews with Christie, Boyega, director Rian Johnson, Lucasfilm‘s Senior VP of Story Development Kiri Heart, and some of the creative geniuses who built the digital world of The Last Jedi. It’s an intriguing insight into the amount of work that goes into creating a set piece like the battle on and destruction of the First Order’s Super Star Destroyer. It also gives us a sneak peek at Boyega and Christie in action as they shoot the pivotal fight.
We love getting the chance to see how our favorite movies are put together, and this inventive mini-doc has loads of great information about the process of building a visual landscape using practical work and post production CGI magic! It’s a total joy getting to hear the people behind the production explain their vision and process for creating iconic moments like BB-8 driving the AT-AT or Phasma’s mask cracking.
