Looks like there’s a new captain in town. Because if you take a look at the new Topps trading cards for Star Wars Episode VII you’d do well to take particular care looking at this particular card of Chewie. Notice anything special?
Yeeeeeahhh. That is indeed an image of Rey, our new heroine—usually seen zipping around the deserts of Jakku—sitting next to Chewbacca as she pilots the Millennium Falcon.
Here’s a close-up. They look serious, but calm, right?
It doesn’t come as a total surprise that Rey will end up having meaningful interaction with Han and Chewie, but it does open the floodgates to speculation putting her in Han’s seat. Given that we have another two months before the release, we’ll take the opportunity to have some fun with it.
Very little can really be learned from this—even the idea she is comfortable in the seat is speculation—but at the very minimum we know that Chewbacca trusts her enough to fill in for Han. Does this mean Han is in trouble, or indisposed, or simply in another part of the ship fixing something? And what does this mean in regards to her relationship with the duo? We know from the trailers that Rey is running away from an explosion on Jakku: is this a rescue mission for a friend or, ahem, a daughter or niece? Or is this just a chance encounter?
So little has been revealed about the movie that even a small slip (an intentional one?) offers a galaxy full of ideas as to what it might mean. The card set also includes X-Wing pilot Poe Dameron possibly walking on sand with BB-8 near him. Would that also place him on Jakku? Is everything going to happen there? Will the next two months please hurry up?
