STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS Documentary to Premiere At SXSW

When Lucasfilm revealed the contents of Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ special features, one of the most anticipated extras was the feature-length documentary Secrets of The Force Awakens: A Cinematic Journey. And Star Wars fans who are going to the South by Southwest Film Festival won’t have to wait until April to see it!

Secrets of The Force Awakens is slated to make its world premiere at SXSW on Monday, March 14 at the Paramount Theater in downtown Austin. The screening starts at noon, and it will be followed by a panel discussion with The Force Awakens’ visual effects supervisor Roger Guyett, supervising sound editor Matthew Wood, and co-producer Michelle Rejwan.

The film itself is said to have new interviews with the cast and the creative team of The Force Awakens, as well as extensive behind-the-scenes footage from the seventh Star Wars film. Because the production of The Force Awakens was so heavily scrutinized, there are already certain stories from the set that we already know about, including Harrison Ford’s first day back as Han Solo, and the infamous on-set accident that broke Ford’s leg and led director J.J. Abrams to injure his back. It should be interesting to see if the documentary addresses that accident or glosses over it.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits digital HD on April 1, and Secrets of The Force Awakens will be included with that bundle, and on The Force Awakens Blu-ray that follows on Tuesday, April 5.

SXSW attendees, will you catch the world premiere of Secrets of The Force Awakens next week? Let us know in the comments below, and if you’re going to be in Austin, make sure you swing by our SXSW Saloon this weekend! More details here.
