New STAR WARS Short Stories Will Spend Time in Casino City Canto Bight

The Star Wars universe has taken viewers and readers to several hostile environments, such as Hoth and Jakku, and a few more sophisticated ones, such as Coruscant and Naboo. We’ve seen a little opulence and decadence, but The Last Jedi will bring a full-on Monte Carlo-esque location with the casino city Canto Bight.

Casino. City. Think of all the wacky people-watching opportunities in Las Vegas, add aliens and creatures, and multiply it by a factor of 10. That’s what I’m imagining for the glamorous location populated with the galaxy’s rich and powerful.

Rose and Finn will be traveling to Canto Bight in Episode VIII, and we’ll get to spend even more time at the lavish city with the upcoming book Canto Bight from Del Rey. Scheduled to drop on December 5, 2017, the book will contain four novella-length short stories that connect to each other. They’ll be penned by authors Saladin Ahmed, Rae Carson, Mira Grant, and John Jackson Miller.

The stories will focus on the “adventures of the exotic aliens and creatures who frequent the captivating casino.” Creative director of Lucasfilm Publishing Michael Siglain told Entertainment Weekly each tale will follow a different alien through some of the areas Canto Bight has to offer, including parlors and racetracks. To identify which characters to expand, members of Lucasfilm Story Group scoured creature shop images of aliens and creatures.

Are you betting on Canto Bight? Head to the comments and let me know if you’ll be picking up this title.
