A life-sized remote-controlled R2-D2 mini-fridge?! Shut up and take my money! Oh… $8,000 dollars you say? Just shut up then!
Haier Asia’s AQUA brand has announced pricing for its insanely cool (pun intended?) R2-D2 RC mini-fridge, which was first revealed in June, and it turns out this little droid will cost a whopping $8,000 dollars. Hopefully you’ve been saving your galactic credits.
In order to warrant the astronomical price, this beverage cooler offers a bevy of features that are sure to make any Star Wars Collectibles fan’s midi-chlorians tingle with excitement. That’s because this fridge-droid is a full-scale replica, makes authentic “beep bloop bloop beep” sounds just like in the films, and lights up exactly like the O.G. Artoo. It can also be controlled by an included wireless remote, so you can fully experience the lifestyle that was previously reserved exclusively for Jabba on the Khetanna.
Aside from all of the work that went into making Artoo as real as possible, for eight thousand dollars, it must keep a ton of snacks and drinks cool simultaneously and maybe even your worst enemy frozen in Carbonite, right? Well, not exactly. In fact, this “refrigerator” can only hold about a half-dozen cans of soda at a time, and also has a battery that lasts about two hours before it needs to be recharged.
But who cares, right? Look at how much effort the folks at AQUA put into the details!
Imagine having a group of friends over and, when one of them asks for a soda or a beer, you remotely wheel this bad boy out from your kitchen. The shock on your friends’ faces would be worth at least a few grand.
If, for some reason, you don’t want to drop $8,000 on this moving (both figurative and literal) piece of functional art, then you can at least check out AQUA’s ad for it below.
