Star Wars spinoff news alert! With a little less than month to go before Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out on digital release and Blu-ray, nine months until the first Star Wars anthology story, Rogue One, hits theaters, and a year and a HALF before Star Wars: Episode VIII finally makes the world right again, we are jonesin’ for any intel about the galaxy far, far away. And though it seems insane that we’d ever have a Han Solo origin story WITHOUT his trusty co-pilot Chewbacca, it is comforting to know that this dynamic duo will reunite once again, albeit in prequel form.
According to a report from The Wrapâthat we at Nerdist have confirmedâDisney CEO Bob Iger confirmed the news today at the Deutsche Bank 2016 Media, Internet & Telecom Conference, sharing that after Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One, Disney has “others in the works, including one, which is an origin story about Han Solo and Chewie. And that’ll come after Star Wars 8 in 2018. And then there will possibly be more thereafter.”
From the wording here, it sounds like this will be more of a buddy story than just a cameo from Han Solo’s furry friend, and that is FINE with us. Can you imagine the two young studs getting into trouble on the Millennium Falcon, or even on Kashyyyk??
While the rumor mill has been going overdrive over which actor will land the coveted role of young Han Solo in Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Star Wars story, we still don’t know who has the swagger to fill the smuggler’s iconic jacket. But don’t miss our idea for a Chewbacca TV series, in Nerdist Presents: Chewie:
Stay tuned for more as this story develops, but in the meantime: what do you want to see from a Han Solo/Chewbacca origin story? Let us know in the comments below!
