STAR WARS Manga Adaptations And Other Titles Available On Comixology

Star Wars left the halls of Dark Horse Comics as of the end of 2014. After curating the franchise for nearly twenty years, Dark Horse sent the saga off with a bang by offering deep discounts on digital versions of their Star Wars comics. That isn’t the last we’ve seen of those stories when it comes to the digital format though. Marvel took the reins of the Star Wars license this month, and they’ve released a large selection of Star Wars comics through comiXology. Because Dark Horse used their own app for digital comics, it’s the first time the titles have been available on comiXology.

The timing of the release is questionable given that they’ve only had the license a short while, Dark Horse just had the massive sale, and the first issue of the new Star Wars era at Marvel is being released this week. However, it’s Star Wars. I don’t know if oversaturation is possible. I mean, look at the huge number of variant covers Marvel is issuing for Star Wars #1. And on the upside, the comiXology Star Wars collection features Tokyopop’s out of print 1998-1999 manga adaptations of the original trilogy and The Phantom Menace by Hisao Tamaki. Though you can still track down print copies (Things From Another World has several in stock and at a discounted rate), the multi-volume series isn’t readily available. Each of the films in the original trilogy are split into four volumes, and The Phantom Menace gets two volumes. The art makes them worth a look:

Those stories and many other titles such as Legacy, The Star Wars, and Knights of the Old Republic are on comiXology’s virtual shelves. You can only buy collected volumes rather than single issues though. It looks like single issues will only be options for the new Marvel series.
