STAR WARS Macaroni and Cheese Pie

As a collector, you want to amass everything for posterity. Action figures stay sealed in their packages untouched by human hands, prints are kept out of the sunlight, but when you collect food-related things as I do, sometimes you just have to indulge in your purchases. When it was brought to my attention that Star Wars Macaroni and Cheese existed, I headed straight to the store with a plan.

Anyone can cook and eat mac and cheese like a regular person, but why not push the limits of the Star Wars realms (and your stomach) by creating a Star Wars Mac and Cheese Pie? Savory pastry crust encompassing the galaxy’s favorite characters in all their carb-filled glory topped off with a flaky, pie crust version of R2-D2. End the meal with a slice of R2-D2 Blue Milk Ice Cream for a complete astromech droid dinner. Thank the maker!

Star Wars Mac n Cheese Pie recipe-05072015

Star Wars Mac and Cheese Pie
(makes one 9-inch pie)
You’ll Need:
-1 9-inch pie plate
-1 egg plus a Tablespoon of water (for egg wash)
-2 boxes Kraft Star Wars Macaroni and Cheese
-1 R2-D2 cookie cutter

Pie Crust Ingredients:
-2 cups all-purpose flour
-1/2 teaspoon salt
-6 Tablespoons cold butter, cut into cubes
-4–6 Tablespoons ice water

In a bowl, whisk together the flour, and salt. With a pastry cutter, cut in the cold butter until crumbly. Add the water by the tablespoon until the dough comes together.

Divide the dough into two. Roll out one half of the dough onto a floured surface, large enough to cover the pie plate. Lift the dough circle over the plate and lightly press into the bottom. Set aside.

Prepare the Macaroni and Cheese according to package directions.

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

Brush the prepped pie crust with egg wash and pour in macaroni and cheese.

Roll out the second half of the pie dough onto a floured surface. With the knife, cut out a 6-inch round circle from the center of the dough.

Lay the pie dough with the circle cut out, over the macaroni and cheese filling.

With the remaining dough scraps, cut out an R2-D2 figure and place into the center of the open circle. Brush the dough with egg wash.

Bake for 20-30 minutes until browned. Let cool for 5 minutes, then serve.
